ABOUT

ESPACE LGBTQ+ is a non-profit organization founded in October 2019. It offers affordable spaces and promotes the sharing of resources and knowledge.

OUR MISSION

Espace LGBTQ+’s mission is to support the improvement of conditions and accessibility for LGBTQIA2S+ social and cultural organizations, notably by co-managing and developing a network of inclusive, diverse community complexes. Espace LGBTQ+ provides affordable spaces and fosters the sharing of resources and knowledge.

OUR VISION

By 2035, Espace LGBTQ+ will be a provincial queer ecosystem offering diverse spaces for learning and collective empowerment toward social transformation.

Espace + Village is built

In 2030, Espace LGBTQ+ has completed its first community and cultural hub, providing affordable spaces to LGBTQIA2S+ community groups, and is on track to build additional hubs across Quebec.

Inclusive and co-managed culture is established

By 2030, Espace LGBTQ+ collectively implements the E+ framework for an inclusive and co-responsible culture, rooted in decolonial and anti-oppressive approaches, applying to everyone within the organization’s spaces.

Spaces for learning and knowledge-sharing spaces are brought to life.

By 2030, Espace LGBTQ+ supports learning spaces by and for communities, as well as the sharing of resources and knowledge, to foster connections, care, and belonging within and between these communities.

OUR VALUES

INCLUSION

To include and work towards respect for sexual orientation, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, and to counter all forms of discrimination related to ethnic origin or race, religious beliefs, social background, physical and psychological autonomy, or political convictions. To promote leadership and improve accessibility for marginalized people within sexual and gender diversity communities.

ENGAGEMENT

To practice a management style where Espace LGBTQ+ provides the environment and infrastructure, and members benefiting from the services commit to the co-creation of shared services and the development of partnerships among themselves and with other organizations. To break down barriers to exchange between sexual and gender diversity groups, taking into account their realities and privileges. To foster synergy among partners where commitment is expressed through taking initiative, collaboration, communication, and the understanding that active involvement is necessary to drive progress.

EMPOWERMENT

To establish a transversal structure and approach throughout the evolution of communities and organizations by contributing to the development of skills, autonomy, and self-determination. To promote the potential of groups and work in partnership and collaboration with sexual and gender diversity community groups as well as related groups to effectively address the social, legal, economic, political, and ecological conditions they face.To celebrate solidarity and the sharing of tools among different groups to build capacity.

INNOVATION

To promote and influence the use of innovative ideas and practices (imagination, intuition, creativity, invention) to address current and emerging realities from an intersectional and anti-oppressive perspective. To create learning spaces that lead to adaptations for the collective good. To focus on co-construction, co-creation, collective intelligence, flexibility, and adaptability to evolution in organizational and decision-making processes.

TRANSPARENCY

To demonstrate authenticity and report on the operational challenges of its activities. To be attentive to the needs of members and of sexual and gender diversity communities. To establish communication and consultation procedures that foster mutual trust between members and staff to ensure that everyone has access to relevant information that concerns them and to improve the shared service offering.
